Ganja is the second largest and most important city in Azerbaijan. According to the latest data, it is more than 2500 years old.
For many centuries, Ganja played an important role in the history and life of the country. It has always been a very developed city, here lived and worked the best artisans – craftsmen, who produced wonderful products of clay, ceramic ware, carpets, jewelry. All this is now kept in the state museums of Azerbaijan. Besides, Ganja is the home of the great Eastern poet Nizami Ganjavi, author of the poem “Seven Beauties”, a man who became a part of the national heritage of Azerbaijan. Today Ganja is a very attractive tourist town, to see the attractions of which come travelers from all over the world.
At the entrance to the city from the southwest side, there is a mausoleum of the poet Nizami. The mausoleum is still a place of pilgrimage of poets from all over the world. One of the main historical and architectural complexes of Ganja is the central mosque – Juma Mosque, built in 1606 on behalf of the Persian Shah Abbas during his reign.Cheyak-Hamam (bath) is, first of all, a cultural monument, since 2002 it is under the protection of UNESCO.
Religious complex «Imam-zade» (XIV century), also known under the name Goy-Imam. The mausoleum was built for Sheikh Ibrahim and is one of the most beautiful ancient structures of Ganja. The blue dome of the tomb is described in almost all guides.
I would also like to note that the cuisine of Ganja is extremely interesting. We recommend a variety of delicious local dishes, kyata with greens or meat (analogue of gutab), Ganja dovga, shah pilav, pakhlava sweets.
