Ateshgah
The Ateshgah Temple of Eternal Fire is a true Azerbaijani exotic place. It is known all over the world. It is located 30 km from the center of Baku, on the outskirts of the village of Surahani. This area is known for a unique natural phenomenon, such as the burning exits of natural gas (gas breaks out, touches oxygen and catches fire). In its modern form, the temple was built in the 17th and 18th centuries. It was built by the Indian community of the Sikh caste in Baku. However, the history of the Ateshgah temple is much older. Long ago in this territory was located a sanctuary of Zoroastrians (approximately in the beginning of our era). The temple ceased to be a place of worship of fire in 1883 after the installations of oil plants in Surahani. The complex was turned into a museum in 1975. The annual number of visitors to the museum is about 16,000.
